A few weeks ago Logan and I had appointments to get our hair cut.

Logan was seeking a”fauxhawk”, thanks to inspiration from a friend at school with a ‘do more remincent of an actual mohawk that was also dyed hot pink. The simple “fauxhawk” was my suggestion, at least for starters, and he had no objection to that. Logan has kept a pretty long hairstyle over the past couple of years, but was ready for a change. And I was ready to let him have his way and experiment with how he wants to present himself to others. I have to say, it was a success and Logan loves his new look and I can’t believe I now have a child who looks like he’s six! He’ll be turning five in August and it’s hard to even think about that. It’s cliche to say– but he’s grown so fast! Anyway, at the end of the post you’ll also get to see some photos of me with my new fancy cut and style. I’m really diggin’ the short look right now.

As for the context of the rest of the photos, it was just a beautiful, partly cloudy weekday afternoon and the boy and I decided to spend some time in the “yard”, our green space, the courthouse lawn next to our building. We’ve come to really appreciate this nearby grassy area since we have no other yard to call our own. We’ve played lots of games in and around that space over the past two years.

On this particular afternoon, we tossed the frisbee around and played hopscotch and hide & seek. You know that version that kids play when all they do is close or cover their eyes or turn their back and think that if they can’t see you, you can’t see them, even though they are hiding in plain sight? Yeah, that’s Logan, and it’s so funny! We also jumped and climbed and showed off our muscles. We explored nature. We had fun.

At the end of the month, we’re moving to another part of town, and I will miss this urban experience. But I look forward to this next chapter for our family in what will be our newly acquired 1960s bi-level ranch. There we will have a whole new yard to explore and many new memories to make and record!

I first photographed this little guy when he was a newborn, then again at six months and now at one year. It’s so rewarding when clients hire me for subsequent photo sessions. Their confidence tells me they connect with my vision and and value my skills, not to mention trust me to capture important milestones for their families. Channing’s mother, Stephanie, is my hair stylist. Since I keep a short cut, I see her quite a bit and our children are often a topic of conversation. But it’s always nice to see Channing in-person, especially when I have my camera. His blue eyes are precious!

I took these photos a couple of weeks ago, but today is Channing’s 1st birthday, so I think that makes this post extra special!

Happy Birthday, little man! Today is your day!
